I believe I said 'unofficially'. Careful not to let strong emotion make you miss minor details.

And while I am obviously noting every time that you fail to answer a question, I should like you to also make note of it. And when you have time, obviously, consider why you have prioritized other matters over the answering of that question. I'd prefer not to badger you with them all in a row but it's getting to be a habit.

A reluctant workman will similarly find reasons not to complete the task assigned to them, and do it even more readily if they find you distasteful. Further, you asserted that the addition you requested would be a boon to the ship but failed to explain how or why or give him any reason to feel compelled to do the work or do it well.

I am aware of what you said. I am countering your argument: unofficial or not, I was not aware I was still on custodial and was assisting a friend. So when you say you prefer to be informed, I am here informing you that there was nothing to be informed about. As I did not know myself.

I assumed his boredom was reason enough. Clearly I was mistaken, as I was not aware I was disliked until he told me. We had not spoken up to that point.

For many people, the two are very different requests. One is to restore that which was broken, that which is expected to function. By it's place on board and it's usual status of function, it has become a communally accepted item whose maintenance is considered part of pitching in to the group's resources.

Construction, however, implies that something new is being added. And the value of that new item is unknown; it has not been here before so the added value it might bring is in question and often whether it will bring value is determined as a matter of faith or trust in the person making the construction request. If he does not like you, he will have less faith or trust that your decision to construct such a thing is a valuable use of his time and efforts.
